Cmajor… I’m excited about this week’s homework. It’s a chance to listen, read and listen some more. Please see your homework below:
- Listen to Cello Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op.49 – Dmitri Kabalevsky
- Listen to Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 – Jean Sibelius
- Listen to Violin Concerto in CMajor, Op. 48 – Dmitri Kabalevsky
- Listen to Piano Concerto No. 3 in CMajor, Op. 26 – Sergei Prokofiev
- Read The Music of Black Americans, Part Three, The Concert Stage – pp. 344-252
- Listen to Beethoven’s Violin Sonata, No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, the “Kreutzer Sonata” *
Happy listening!
*Note: Beethoven and Bridgetower premiered the work together in 1803 at the Augarten Palace Park Pavilion in Vienna. The Sonata was originally written for and dedicated to George Augustus Polgreen Bridgetower, but the dedication was withdrawn and later granted to Rodolphe Kreutzer. You can watch a scene about George Bridgetower — from the movie Immortal Beloved; the clip shows a rehearsal of the sonata. Enjoy!
