What’s your New Year Challenge this year? Thank goodness 2020 is gone. We said our goodbyes, happily, didn’t we? I know I did. I could not wait to say 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1…Happy New Year!! And, miraculously, I got to see the ball drop in Times Square. It was the second time I’d seen it. The first time was many, many, many years ago and the weather that year was sooooooo frigid and cold that even my media friends warned me to stay away. But, noooooo, I didn’t listen. I went anyway and I can say that I don’t recall very much about the experience. I can say that I might have “brain freeze” when it comes to that faint memory.
This year is different. I won’t go into too much detail about how I got to see the ball drop. (Hint. hint. See the hashtags at the end of this post for more information.) However, I will include some ways to located pictures of me and some of my musical family and friends.*
So, for the new year challenge. First of all, let me wish you all a healthy, prosperous and happy new year. Some of my students are already challenging themselves to learn new music, different styles of playing, exploring other genres, etc. I love my students so much. They challenge me. I never know what they will ask of me next. It keeps me gladly on my toes.
I’ll give you a challenge myself. It’s close to the ‘thing’ that got us into Times Square for 2020/2021. Please see the challenge below:
Make a video of yourself playing your instrument. Choose music that brings you joy. Share that video with someone who can use some joy in their life. That’s it. Follow-up with them to find out the difference you might have made by giving it to them. Find out what their initial reaction was after they watched the video. Challenge complete.
